A person has been treated in hospital after a report to emergency services of an individual lying "motionless" at the bottom of a cliff on the north coast.

The Coastguard based in Coleraine responded to the call on Tuesday evening after the person was seen lying at rocks below a cliff on the edge of Ballyreagh Golf Course in Portrush.

A Coastguard spokesperson said specialist rope rescue teams worked to hoist the casualty to the top of the cliff before they were taken by ambulance to hospital.

The operation also involved the RNLI based in Portrush.

An NI Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to Causeway Hospital."
