Four people have been charged after a quantity of toys and children's clothes suspected of having been stolen from stores across the north were found in a car stopped by police.

The vehicle was pulled over on the M1 close to Lisburn on Sunday at around 5.30pm, after it was identified as being linked to the theft of a designer perfume in a Newry pharmacy earlier this month.

Upon searching the car, police discovered over 100 clothing and toy items, some of which had been reported as stolen from a store in Newry, and which had no proof of purchase.

It is suspected the items are from branches of the same store in Newry, Armagh, Cookstown, Omagh and Sprucefield.

Three men in the vehicle - aged 31, 22 and 20 - and a 25-year-old woman were arrested and later charged with theft and going equipped for theft.

They are due to appear before Omagh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
