AN investigation into the cause of a boat fire in Co Fermanagh is underway, the NI Fire and Rescue Service has said.

One person has been treated in hospital in Belfast following the incident in the Crom Estate area of Newtownbutler on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene after receiving reports that a boat was on fire in the area, close to the Upper Lough Erne shore.

A PSNI spokesperson said officers arrived at the scene after receiving the report shortly before 1pm.

The force said no further details were available on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said three fire appliances arrived to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters left the area at around 4pm, and the spokesperson said: "The cause remains under investigation.”

The NI Ambulance Service said an emergency crew and rapid response paramedic was called to the scene, arriving alongside the Charity Air Ambulance.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by Air Ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital," a spokesperson said.
