A motorcyclist killed in a crash in Co Derry has been described as a "true gentleman".

Aidy Clarkin (43), from the Draperstown area, was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Tobermore on Thursday shortly after 5pm.

Tributes have described him as the "kindest, nicest fella" and a "great lad".

Police said the crash happened in Lisnamuck road and Mr Clarkin was declared dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing and the PSNI are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage that could help officers, to contact them.

Friends of Mr Clarkin have been paying tribute to him on social media, with many describing their devastation at his death.

One friend wrote: "Aidan was the kindest, nicest fella always so jolly and best craic telling the aul stories.

"A pleasure to have known over the years, I will cherish our childhood memories. Thoughts and prayers to all the family. RIP Aidy."

Another tribute said it was "very sad news about Aidan. Such a happy pleasant fella", while another friend added that he was "a great lad, a true gentleman".
