Hollywood actor and now author Tom Hanks has been added to the list of speakers at next month's Dalkey Book Festival. .

The two-time Academy Award winner will speak about his debut novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece on June 16, Bloomsday.

He will talk about the journey from acting to writing, the event organisers said. Those attending the event will all receive the novel.

It was also announced on Monday that Bono and the physicist Brian Cox, host of BBC's Infinite Monkey Cage, have been added to the festival line up.

Now in its 14th year, the festival runs from June 15-18. It has developed into one of the most anticipated book festivals on the circuit.

Tickets for the talks by Hanks, Cox and Bono will go on sale on Wednesday from 10am. They are available from dalkeybookfestival.org.

Other names already announced are Dylan Moran, John Banville, Sebastian Barry, Liz Nugent, Deirdre O’Kane, Fintan O'Toole and Roddy Doyle.
