Shots have been fired at a flat in Newtownards in an attack believed to be linked to an ongoing feud in the Ards and North Down area.

Police said the first-floor property in the Shackleton Walk area was targeted on Sunday night.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Shortly after 11:05pm, it was reported that two shots were fired at a first floor flat in the area.

"Damage was reported to the living-room window and bedroom window. No-one was inside during the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have any information which could assist us, to call us on 101."

It comes amid a spate of incidents in the town and parts of North Down, which police believe is linked to feuding drug gangs expelled from the UDA.

These have included petrol bomb attacks, windows being smashed with hammers and bricks, and a pipe bomb attack.

There have also been attempted hijackings and graffiti daubed on properties.

Earlier this month, hundreds of residents paraded in the Co Down town to call for an end to the violence.
