UP to ten people have fled their homes in a Co Down estate as part of drugs feud involving former members of the UDA.

It is understood those who left the West Winds estate in Newtownards were named on a list of people handed to police at the weekend.

Details emerged as residents held a "community safety walkabout" on Monday evening over the ongoing feud.

The gathering saw several hundred people, including some with young children, stage a walk through the estate, with PSNI vehicles parked along the route.

It is understood mainstream loyalists were also in attendance.

The West Winds Resident Collective said the event was organised "to send a clear message that the criminal gang calling itself the ‘Real UFF’ are not welcome" in the area.

Following the gathering, independent councillor Steven Irvine said the gathering was a "night of solidarity, a community coming together".

Multiple attacks on property and people have been carried out since former members of the South East Antrim UDA based in north Down, who call themselves the 'Real UFF', became involved in a dispute with another drug dealing faction last month.

Members of the rival faction include people originally part of a ‘satellite’ unit known as ‘D Company’, which was affiliated to the West Belfast UDA but later expelled.

It is understood neither drug gang is affiliated to the mainstream UDA/UFF.

In a weekend statement, residents of the West Winds called on members of the 'Real UFF' faction to leave the estate within 48 hours.

It is understood the names of those referred to have been passed to the PSNI by a restorative justice group.

Loyalist sources say that up ten people have left since the weekend.

It is also claimed up to 25 members of the faction have now gathered around two houses in another estate in Newtownards.

"They have nowhere to go, they have all abandoned their own houses and have just bunkered into two houses," a senior loyalist source said.

"The long and short of this is they are going, one way or another."

The source added: "The general feeling is now once the South East Antrim crowd escape their delusion this is over and they will be on their way.

"It's not if, but when they come to their senses."

In its statement, the West Winds Resident Collective said: "We are fed up of the disruption to our community, and indeed other communities across our borough, and tonight we are going to walk the streets together to show that this community will not be intimidated, threatened or bullied.

They added: "We want a completely peaceful and lawful solution to the ongoing dispute."
