RESIDENTS in the Poleglass area of west Belfast have been urged to avoid suspicious objects following a report to police that an explosive device had been left in the area.

Police have conducted enquiries into the report that a device was left in the Glenbawn area on Monday, however, no roads were closed or areas cordoned off as the investigation took place.

"Police are appealing to members of the public living in, or travelling through the area, to be vigilant and not to touch anything suspicious but to contact police immediately by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency quoting reference 788 13/03/23," a PSNI spokesperson said.

Local residents were left frustrated at the warning, a local community worker has said.

Care home campaigner Julieann McNally said she had spoken to parents who expressed "sheer anger and frustration" that they only learned of the warning online at a time when children were passing through the area on their way home from school.

"I would urge residents to be vigilant," she added.
