An exhibition featuring sets, props and memorabilia from Derry Girls is to be opened at the city’s Tower Museum.

The local council hopes the 'Home of Derry Girls' exhibition along with series of other related events will help attract fans to the city.

Head of Culture at the council, Aeidin McCarter told members yesterday £71,000 in funding has been secured for the exhibition with a further £9,000 from the council. She said the pilot exhibition would be used to test public interest before working towards a permanent Derry Girls’ collection.

“We hope to create an exciting high quality, original, immersive visitor experience completely unique to this city,” the council spokeswoman said.

The council hopes to launch the pilot exhibition in March with a larger exhibition opening in the summer.

“The project will highlight the social impact of the Derry Girls’ phenomenon, the roots of its setting against the backdrop of 1990s’ culture, the Troubles and, of course, the peace process, all captured with great humour and poignancy in the show,” she said.
