A 74-year-old motorcyclist has been killed in a three-vehicle crash in Co Antrim.

Police last night said Tom Richardson had died as a result of injuries following the collision in the Upper Road area of Carrickfergus yesterday morning.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Just after 9.05am, it was reported that a motorbike, a black Mercedes Vito and a black Honda Accord were involved in the incident.

"Sadly, the motorcyclist died at the scene as a result of his injuries."

He added that "enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage available, is asked to contact police on 101".

It comes just two days after a 71-year-old woman died in a road crash in Co Fermanagh.

The two-vehicle collision happened on the Boa Island Road in Belleek on Saturday, and the victim was named by police as Joan Love.

The crash, which involved a silver coloured Honda Jazz and a red coloured Mitsubishi pick-up, happened shortly before 4pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the funeral of a mother-of-two killed in a road collision in Co Antrim is to take place on Thursday.

Aurelia Kelly (54), who was from Ballymena, died when her car was involved in a collision with a lorry at Frosses Road, Ballymoney on November 4.

Mrs Kelly was the wife of Rev Trevor Kelly, Church of Ireland curate at Drummaul, Duneane and Ballyscullion. She was also a niece of well-known storyteller Liz Weir.

Tributes described her as as a lady with "a huge heart".

An active and innovative member of her parish, Mrs Kelly was heavily involved in fundraising for foodbanks. In 2020, she arranged a 'Doorstep Drop Donation Appeal', inviting people to leave donations for Ballymena Foodbank in her garden.

A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held in St Colmanell's Parish Church, Ahoghill at 2pm followed by committal in the adjoining graveyard.

She is survived by her husband, Rev Trevor Kelly, children Andrew and Rebecca and wider family circle.
