Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis could be on her way to Derry to celebrate Halloween next year.

Mayor Graham Warke has invited the movie star to the city after she said she would “love” to visit to celebrate next year's launch of the final film in the famous Halloween horror movie series.

The Halloween franchise introduced Curtis to the world in 1978 and the actor has frequently returned to the role of 'Laurie Strode'.

The daughter of Hollywood greats, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, she has also starred in some of industry's best-known blockbusters, including A Fish Called Wanda, Trading Places and True Lies.

Curtis returned again to the Strode role for the last Halloween film in 2018 with the second in the series due to launch this Friday and the final film due next year. In a promotional Question and Answer session with Irish journalism website, Joe.ie, the star said she was determined to visit Derry for Halloween next year.

On hearing of the city's famous Halloween celebrations, the star said: “I’m going to tell that to my friends at Universal (studios) so that next year, when we release the last of the trilogy, maybe we’ll make a good Derry appearance.”

In the same interview, Curtis said: “By the time I get to Europe, it will be after the release in America so I’ll be with you in Derry around the 22nd (October 2022). We’re locking it in. We’ll be in Derry on the 22nd.”

Extending an official invitation to visit, Mr Warke said nowhere else could offer a better location to showcase the Halloween film series than “the home of Halloween itself”.

“We will certainly explore further the possibility of extending an invitation to Jamie Lee Curtis and the writer and director of the new Halloween trilogy, David Gordon. It would be the ultimate Halloween treat to welcome them for a celebration of one of the most famous horror film series ever made.”
