A CO Down man has been ordered to stand trial accused of stabbing his neighbour to death.

Appearing at Newtownards Magistrates Court by videolink from prison, 46-year-old Andrew Ian Vance was charged with the murder of Timothy Graham and possessing class B cannabis on October 31 2019.

Mr Graham (47), who was originally from Hillsborough, Co Down and who was described as a volunteer worker at the Hole in the Hedge cafe, was found dead with knife wounds at his home in Enterprise Court in Bangor at around 1am.

At the time Vance was also a resident at Enterprise Court which is sheltered accommodation for people living with mental health issues.

None of the facts surrounding the death were opened in court today during the Preliminary Enquiry, the legal step necessary to elevate any case to the Crown Court.

Remanding Vance back into custody and returning the case to Downpatrick Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, District Judge Mark Hamill extended legal aid to allow a senior QC to be instructed and scheduled the arraignment for June 25.
