Derry is the most generous city in Northern Ireland or Britain.

Figures released by GoFundMe show Ireland was the most generous country in the world based on the number of donations per capita towards people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The US was in second place with the UK third.

The crowdfunding organisation released details of the most generous cities and countries based on average donations since the coronavirus pandemic broke out. Derry was named as the most generous city, followed by Cambridge and Edinburgh.

GoFundMe’s senior international director, John Coventry said that between March and August, more than £450 million was donated worldwide to people affected by the crisis, using the Gofundme platform.

“It’s an important reminder that even during such a difficult year, humanity and generosity has shone brightly,” Mr Coventry said.
