Coronavirus: Two further deaths and 71 new cases recorded in Northern Ireland

Another two people have died after testing positive for Covid-19, the Department of Health has said.

One of the deaths occurred in the last day while the other person had previously died but the case has only today been included in the department's statistics.

The total number of deaths in the north now stands at 562.

There were 71 new cases of coronavirus identified in the last 24 hours, meaning the total number for the week stands at 463.

There have been 7,365 confirmed cases since the pandemic began.

In hospitals, 20 patients have tested positive for Covid-19 with three ventilated in intensive care.

There are 18 confirmed outbreaks in care homes and six suspected outbreaks.

Today's figures were released after the Republic yesterday recorded its highest daily rise in coronavirus infections since May, with 217 new cases reported in 24 hours.

A watchdog report this morning revealed that more than £2 billion has so far spent responding to the coronavirus pandemic in the north.
