Only one coronavirus death was recorded last week, according to newly released figures.

The figures, released by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) this morning, show that 855 have died from the disease so far.

One death was recorded in the week up to July 31.

During the previous week, the number of registered coronavirus deaths rose for the first time last week since mid-June.

Seven people died from the disease in the week ending July 24, according to deaths registered.

Of the 885 people who have died so far, 449 deaths (52.5%) took place in hospital, 349 (40.8%) in care homes, eight (0.9%) in hospices and 49 (5.7%) at residential addresses or other locations.

Deaths were recorded at 81 separate care homes and hospices.

Nisra records all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate.

Daily death figures released by the Department of Health mainly cover coronavirus fatalities in hospital.

Nisra's figures are substantially higher than those released by the department, which has put the overall number of deaths at 556.

Care home residents accounted for around half of all deaths.

Two-thirds of coronavirus deaths were among those aged 75 and over.

People living in Belfast accounted for 245 (28.7%) of coronavirus deaths.
