DERRY singer and actor Damian McGinty has called for prayers for missing US star Naya Rivera with whom he worked in the international blockbuster series Glee.

McGinty (27) posted his comments on Twitter after it was revealed that Rivera was missing presumed dead following a boating accident.

The US model played the part of cheerleader Santana Lopez, one of the main characters in the hugely popular Fox television series.

On Tuesday, US police found Rivera's four-year-old son alone in a boat which the actor had hired earlier in the day. The youngster was found asleep in the boat on Lake Piru north west of Los Angeles. He told police that his mum had gone swimming but had been unable to get back into the vessel.

A lifejacket and other personal items belonging to Rivera (33) were found on the boat but, despite a search which lasted throughout Tuesday, no trace of the star was found.

McGinty worked with Ms Rivera when he appeared in 18 episodes of the series in 2011 and 2012. Following successful US tours with singing group Celtic Thunder, McGinty won an audition through The Glee Project.

His prize was a starring role as Rory Flanagan on seven episodes. This was extended to 18 episodes. He also sang on Glee’s Christmas album and returned for the Christmas episode on Glee’s fourth series.

After news of Rivera’s disappearance broke yesterday, McGinty posted his concerns on Twitter with the message "Sick to my stomach. Please pray".
