A 10-year-old from Co Down showcased his lockdown football skills to win a professional footballer's social media challenge.

Bangor schoolboy Jackson Best was selected as the winner of Yannick Bolasie's skills contest on Tuesday night.

A pupil at Rathmore Primary School, the aspiring footballer has been putting his time at home to good use by practising his favourite sport.

The Carnmoney Colts player has been taking part in online coaching classes and earlier this week took on Bolasie's weekly Instagram challenge.

The Everton winger, who is loan with Portugese club Sporting CP, uses his social media channel to rate other people's skills.

Fans join Bolasie live on Instagram and Jackson's mother Claire said her son was delighted to be selected to show off his moves.

"Jackson has been playing a lot of football since lockdown began, practising every day, breaking his keepyt-up record, which is now at 691, and learning new and complicated skills all the time," she said.

"His dad Stuart is his football coach at Carnmoney Colts, so they're doing Facebook live training every week, which has been great.

"I set up an Instagram account for Jackson so he's able to access online football coaching and learn new skills.

"On Tuesday, his dad said to him about joining Bolasie's weekly challenge and he went off and practised all day.

"Bolasie goes live at 5pm and invites people who are watching him to show off their skills and Jackson was picked.

"He had to do a series of ball control skills and Bolasie was so encouraging to him during it, telling him he was good.

"Jackson came off and was absolutely buzzing and also won a pair of football boots for coming first."

Mrs Best said it was wonderful to see a "bit of positivity" during the coronavirus crisis.

"Every day Jackson's out in the garden, he's very tenacious and focused, especially when it comes to his sport and in particular football," she said.

"He's a lot of more time on his hands and has put it to good use.

"It's one of the lovely things to actually come out of lockdown."
