DUP leader Arlene Foster may be overseas when the much-anticipated report into the RHI scandal is released in just over a fortnight's time.

The first minister and Sinn Féin deputy first minister Michelle O'Neill will travel to the US for the annual St Patrick's Day celebrations, which are traditionally held in the days leading up to March 17.

The Executive Office last night declined to give details of their travel schedule.

Sir Patrick Coghlin will finally reveals the findings of his long-running inquiry on the Friday before the St Patrick's holiday weekend.

Mrs Foster oversaw the roll-out of the botched RHI scheme and is expected to feature prominently in the report, which is being released on the afternoon of March 13 due to what an inquiry spokesman described as "logistics and availability of panel members".

People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll said releasing a "hugely important report late on Friday is frankly disappointing".

"The timing could lead to the impression that its subject matter is being deprioritised," he said.

A written assembly question tabled more than a fortnight ago by TUV leader Jim Allister asking if the two Stormont leaders will be in the north for the report's publication has so far gone unanswered.
