A CO Down man has died four days after a road crash involving a car and a fire service appliance attending an emergency call.

Gary Bennett (59) was driving a BMW when it was involved in a collision with the fire appliance on the Springhill Road.

The crash happened on Saturday, but Mr Bennett passed away as a result of his injuries on Wednesday.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The collision occurred at around 7pm at the junction with West Circular Road.

"The driver of the car, 59-year-old Gary Bennett from the Bangor area, was taken to hospital following the collision but sadly passed away from his injuries on Wednesday 11th December.

"We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and would ask any witnesses, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage which could assist us with our enquiries, to contact police at Newtownards on 101."

Meanwhile, a woman was cut from a car which overturned in a four-vehicle crash in Co Down yesterday.

The collision happened on the Gray's Hill road in Bangor shortly after 3pm.

The extent of the woman's injuries was last night unclear.
