A WEST Belfast man has appeared in court charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife and hurley with intent to commit an indictable offence.

It emerges after a woman with severe facial injuries posted an alarming video of herself online in which she claimed she had been attacked.

The video, which was uploaded on Monday, has been shared by more than 11,000 social media users and viewed over 700,000 times.

The woman, thought to be a mother-of-two, also posted several photos of her injuries.

James McKinley (29), of Clonavogie Gardens, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court on Monday in relation to an alleged incident last Friday.

He is charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, as well as criminal damage to a phone.

The accused is also charged with two counts of possession of offensive weapon – namely a knife and a hurley – with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Mr McKinley was granted bail. His bail conditions include that he resides at an address to be approved by the PSNI.

He also must agree to drug or breathalyser tests if requested by police, and cannot possess any alcohol nor enter licensed premises.

Mr McKinley must also not contact the alleged victim or any of her family members directly or indirectly.

The case was adjourned for a further hearing at Laganside Courthouse on December 19.
