A MAN in his thirties has been hospitalised with a broken leg after being beaten with baseball bats in an suspected paramilitary style assault in the New Lodge area of north Belfast.

Two masked men approached him shortly before 2.25am yesterday and carried out what Detective Inspector Kerry Brennan described as a "vicious and brutal assault".

"There is no justification for this type of attack," she said.

"We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and stop this from happening to anyone else."

Ms Brennan appealed to anyone with information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 116.
