YOU may not be able to put a price on peace, but the going rate for a final draft of the 1998 Good Friday agreement is €28,000.

The document sold at the weekend for four times more than its top guide price of €7,000 as part of the Eclectic Collectors auction held by Whyte's auctioneers in Dublin.

Auction house director Ian Whyte told RTÉ it was "a rare example of this historic document".

"It's an official copy of the final draft, printed at Stormont on April 10. It contained the autographs of 44 participants including former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, the late Deputy First Minister, Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness, along with his colleague Gerry Adams," he said.

The document was also autographed by US Senator George Mitchell who played an historic part in brokering the agreement, with the signatures collected by a member of the PUP delegation.

It is understood the artefact will be staying in Ireland.
