A MAN was shot outside a boxing match in Dublin on Friday night.

At least two gunmen opened fire on the victim as he got into his car outside the National Stadium just after 9.30pm, a witness said.

It is understood the man left his car and ran away but was pursued by the gunmen and wounded.

The severity of the victim's injuries was not known late on Friday. There were unconfirmed reports that two students were also wounded after they were hit in the crossfire. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The wounded man was a spectator at the under-18 and under-22 championships.

Several boxers from northern-based clubs were taking part.

Barry Tucker from Holy Family Boxing Club in north Belfast said his son Cian had been due to fight shortly before the shooting.

"It was a horrific scene," he said.

"Kids were running from the front and jumping over seats and screaming. Everyone ran to the back of the stadium. People were hiding under cars and some of the kids were trying to climb a big 20ft fence at the back.

"It was pandemonium. I thought it was one of those terror attacks.

"My son was to fight and I couldn't get hold of him. He was in the changing room. He was fine but we could hear the shooting. I don't know how many shots were fired."

It was reported that the victim was an associate of the Kinahan crime family who have been involved in a gangland feud with the rival Hutch gang.

Several people have been killed during the feud including David Byrne who was shot dead at a boxing weigh-in in north Dublin's Regency Hotel in February 2016.
