A 29-YEAR-OLD man is to appear in court over a snowman holding a rocket launcher being painted on the window of a republican support group's office in Derry.

The image – which included the message, "Wishing you an explosive Christmas" – appeared at the office in Chamberlain Street of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association.

Police said the man has been charged with "two counts of permitting display of anything provocative".

He is due to appear at Derry magistrates court on Wednesday January 3.

Police launched an investigation following a complaint from a DUP councillor after the display appeared in October.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland.
