A 43-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist has died and a second has been injured following two separate crashes over the weekend.

The man was killed after a collision with a car on Castlewellan Road in Cabra at around 8.30pm on Saturday.

The second man was taken to hospital after his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a car on the A1 Hillsborough Road at midday yesterday.

The extent of his injuries was unclear last night.

Police have appealed for information about both crashes.

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan extended her sympathies to the family and friends of the man who lost his life.

"This news will have shocked many people in the local area," she said.

"Any death on our roads is one too many.

"I would encourage anyone who was travelling on the Castlewellan Road at 8:30pm on Saturday or who witnessed the collision to bring the information to the police."
