THE family of a Co Tyrone councillor shot dead more than 40 years ago will today meet the Police Ombudsman as part of a long-running campaign for justice.

Patsy Kelly (33), an independent member of Omagh district council, was murdered and dumped into water with weights tied to his body in July 1974 after being abducted as he walked home from work at the Corner bar in Trillick.

Members of the UDR were thought to have been involved in the loyalist shooting and the family had serious concerns about the original RUC investigation.

The Kelly family will today be accompanied by Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP Barry McElduff, who said they want to know why information relating to the murder has not been shared with them.

"The Kelly family have been failed abominably by the state, the police and by other investigative agencies," he said.
