FIVE cars on one street were damaged in a Christmas attack - with one burnt out.

The vehicles were targeted on Farringdon Gardens in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast on Christmas Day.

One was set alight while an attempt was made to burn two others.

Tyres were also slashed and paint was thrown over the cars.

Residents in the cul-de-sac said they could think of no reason why they had been targeted.

Jacqueline McCann, whose car was set on fire, said the attack came "out of the blue".

Her daughter, who was visiting for Christmas, also had her car damaged.

Ms McCann added that her nine-month-old grand daughter had to be moved into a back bedroom as a precaution in case the fire caused the fuel tank to explode.

"I was in bed and it was about 10 to two in the morning and one of my neighbours was banging on the door. My daughter who was staying over was saying `your car is on fire'," she said.

"After the fire brigade left we noticed that paint had been thrown on other cars and that tyres were slashed and cars scratched.

"Christmas is supposed to be a happy occasion. I feel sick and we are in shock. I can't sleep from worrying about it."
