APPRENTICE hopeful Grainne McCoy has narrowly escaped being fired from the BBC show during her first boardroom grilling from Alan Sugar.

The make-up studio owner from Newry acted as a project manager on week four of the business challenge, which saw the surprise departure of two candidates.

Her team failed to impress during a fashion task in which the apprentice hopefuls took over luxury London department store Liberty.

But despite being in the firing line during Sugar's infamous boardroom interrogation, McCoy survived.

The latest episode saw the departure of candidate Aleksandra King before the task had even begun.

She declared she was "sorry" but she was "not enjoying" the competition before leaving the room.

The mother-of-three said she quit the programme because of the lack of contact allowed with her family.

The 38-year-old left alongside Mukai Noiri who was fired by Lord Sugar after struggling during the fashion challenge.

Noiri was taken into the board room by McCoy alongside Karthik Nagesan and paid the price for encouraging her to opt for selling handbags over scarves.
