Last month 'coldest April in 27 years'

LAST month was the coldest April in 27 years, according to statistics from Armagh Observatory.

The observatory said the average temperature was just above 7C, cooler than the long-term average.

The month saw 21 nights of ground frost as well as sleet, hail and some snow. The coldest night was April 9, with a low of -1.5C.

April was also slightly drier and duller than average. The wettest day was April 6 with 7.5 mm of rainfall.

The observatory has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
