LEAD has been stolen from the roof of an historic church in Derry.

The theft at St Columba’s Church, Long Tower was discovered when workmen went to repair a leak in the roof during recent rain storms.

Built in 1783, St Columba’s overlooks Derry’s Bogside and stands on a church site dating back to the 12th century.

On Wednesday, lead was also taken from the roof of the Nazareth House building in nearby Bishop Street.
