Over 20,000 counterfeit items including fake iPhones, smartwatches and vapes have been seized by Police during searches in Belfast and Portadown.

The searches were carried out on Thursday by detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch, as part of an investigation stemming from seizures made in December in the East Midlands, England.

The items also included phone chargers and counterfeit AirPod earphones, and are estimated to represent a loss to brands including Apple of around £600,000.

A sum of cash was also seized, and a 24-year-old man was arrested in Portadown on suspicion of immigration offences. He has been taken to Belfast’s Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Anyone with information, or concerns, about the supply of counterfeit goods is asked to contact police on 101.”
