Motorcyclist killed in Co Cork crash

A motorcyclist aged in his 60s has died in a crash in Co Cork.

The single-vehicle collision took place on the R579 at Glen South, Banteer, at around 6.45pm on Sunday evening.

The driver of the motorcycle, a male aged in his 60s, was fatally injured following the collision.

His body was removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The R579 road, from Banteer to Nad, remains closed on Monday morning pending a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who have footage of the incident to contact them at Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
