A Longford woman allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend in New York had told colleagues her relationship “was not going well,” police have said.

Sarah McNally (41) had been working the Saturday shift at the Céilí House bar in Queens when she was brutally attacked on March 30, with her attacked also self-inflicting stab wounds.

Marcin Pieciak (36) was arrested on Monday and has since been charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

If convicted, he will face up to 25 years in prison.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz confirmed he was in a relationship with Ms McNally, and that the “unprovoked” attack had shocked the community.

“It was unprovoked and a devastating loss for the family,” she said.

“We are using every resource to make sure there is accountability.”

Reported by Mail Online, New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny stated that Ms McNally had told her colleagues that her relationship “was not going well”.

Having lived in the United States for around 10 years, he added that she was considering moving back to Dublin.

He stated she was behind the bar talking with customers around 6.30pm when Pieciak suddenly attacked her.

“Once he makes his greetings, he goes behind the bar takes out two knives and stabs her repeatedly,’ Det Kenny said.

“After he’s done stabbing her, he then tries to slice his own throat on video.”

It was further reported that a customer was able to restrain him until police arrived and seized the two knives that Pieciak dropped.

By the time officers arrived, they found Ms McNally fatally injured with a knife wound to her neck while Pieciak was allegedly also in the bar suffering from self-inflicted knife wounds.
