THE new school year is only weeks old but already dozens of children at a Co Down primary have been sent to the principal's office - but as a reward.

Holy Cross PS in Attical, Co Down has devised a special `pupil of the week' initiative which sees children selected to share tea and biscuits with the headmistress.

The idea is that children are rewarded for "exceptional work and contributions to the life of the school" and "most importantly for showing kindness".

Each week, one pupil from Key Stage 1 (P1-4) and one from Key Stage 2 (P5-7) receives an invitation to `go the the principal's office'.

Then on the first Monday of the month, all the recipients of invitations are taken to the office for tea and treats.

"What a way to reward our hard working, enthusiastic boys and girls," the school said.
