AN ONLINE map reveals how many people from Northern Ireland have signed a web petition calling for a second EU referendum.

Almost four million signatures had been added by yesterday, although British Prime Minister David Cameron has said there will be no second vote.

The petition gained support after last week's referendum saw 51.9 per cent of voters back leaving the European Union compared with 48.1 per cent voting to remain.

More than 60,000 signatures on the petition come from people in Northern Ireland, according to an interactive map.

Of those South Belfast, where almost 70 per cent supported Remain in the referendum, has the most names with more than 8,000.

The north's lowest number of signatures, just over 2,200, comes from people in North Antrim where about 62 per cent backed Brexit.

However, some other constituencies that voted Leave have among the most signatures from Northern Ireland.

Fifth on the list is East Belfast followed by Lagan Valley, each with close to 4,000 signatures.

When a petition receives more than 100,000 signatures, it is considered for debate at Westminster.

Overall the online map appears to show the petition has gained most support from areas of London and other parts of England.
