A MAN in his 30s has been assaulted by a group armed with a machete on the outskirts of the city centre in the early hours of Sunday July 30.

Police said the attack happened between the Village area of Belfast and the Grosvenor Road area at around 3.45am

A police spokeswoman said officers received reports that a 32-year-old man had been assaulted by "a group of males with a machete".

The man, who was wearing a white T-shirt, dark jeans and white trainers at the time of the incident, was treated at hospital for a serious hand injury.

Detectives have asked anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened or has any information they think could assist the police investigation, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 381 30/07/17 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
