BUSINESS and civic leaders delivered an open letter to Stormont yesterday to urge politicians to work towards agreement.

A delegation handed in the letter which has been backed by 19 organisations and bodies, including the NI Chamber of Commerce, the Ulster Farmers’ Union, Hospitality Ulster, and the north’s two universities.

Urging politicians to go the extra mile to secure a deal, they argue that devolution is the only option for safeguarding peace and generating economic growth. It also warns that a united voice is "urgently needed to protect our unique interests" during Brexit negotiations.

The letter also said: “Together our organisations represent hundreds of thousands of people across all religions, backgrounds and sectors.

"We unequivocally state that the best way forward for everyone in Northern Ireland is through a local power-sharing government which is built upon a desire to maintain our peace process, demonstrate respect to all communities and deliver compromise where needed.”
