A Belfast street artist has created a personal tribute to the late singer George Michael.

The mural on the corner of India Street in the Botanic area of the city is the work of the 'Belfast Banksy' Glen Molloy.

In November the former DJ was unmasked as the artist behind paintings of famous faces including David Bowie and Leonardo Di Caprio which sprang up overnight on walls around the docks area.

Last month he also created a striking 70ft piece highlighting the plight of the homeless in Belfast on Great Victoria Street, entitled 'Homeless... No less'.

The George Michael painting, entitled 'You got to have faith' after his 1980s hit, took the east Belfast artist six hours in the dead of night on Tuesday and is his personal homage to a "genius".

Created with spray paint, it sits on wooden panels beside another Molloy portrait of another recently deceased musician, Prince, which has still to be completed.

"The whole point of it was to show some love for George, because his music is heavenly. He was amazingly creative, the guy was a genius. This is my tribute to him," the unemployed artist said.

"There has been a brilliant reaction so far on Facebook and the image is in the early stages of going viral. I looked at it last night at about 6pm and there were 30,000 views, which isn't bad for a painting by some guy from Belfast."
