RTÉ is giving viewers a look behind the scenes of its hugely popular annual programme The Late Late Toy Show.

The yearly screening features the most popular toys in the run-up to Christmas, along with entertainment segments and special guests.

It's Ireland’s most-watched broadcast, with an average of 1.56million viewers tuning in last year.

Now a three-part documentary, The Late Late Toy Show Unwrapped, is following participants as they prepare for the 2016 edition, which will be screened on December 2 and presented by Ryan Tubridy.

The documentary will air in the week leading up to the live show.

InThe Late Late Show Unwrapped, cameras follow hopefuls who audition to join the show’s line-up of singers, dancers and musicians

Series producer Hillary Jones said: “We really want to capture the joy and excitement of the performers taking part in The Late Late Toy Show.

“For the children auditioning this is a once in a lifetime experience. We’re aiming to give viewers a real insight in how the biggest night on Irish television comes together by following some of the little stars auditioning to take part and going behind the scenes with the team who put the show together ”.
