A CONVICTED paedophile who was described as having “dropped off the police radar” has appeared at Dungannon Magistrates Court on multiple charges of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

James White (46) was listed with an address in North Street, Stewartstown, Co Tyrone, but was last registered with police as per notification requirements as living at Maginnis Street in Newry, Co Down.

However it is alleged he has not been at that address almost a year, and his whereabouts had been unknown until his arrest.

White is accused of leaving Northern Ireland without the approval of his designated risk manager on August 18 last year, as well as failing to notify police of a new address.

It is further alleged that, between March 1 and July 25 this year, White lived at two addresses without approval, and was in possession of a mobile phone and electronic tablet, both of which were capable of accessing the internet.

Finally on dates between April 2 and June 30 this year, at an address in Ballygawley, White is accused of having unapproved contact with a 14 year -old male as well as permitting a youth to consume intoxicating liquor.

There was no application for bail and White was remanded in custody to appear by video-link next month.
