THE husband of a Co Antrim woman who died in a car crash in Randalstown has described her as a "genuinely great woman" who "lived for her family".

William Clyde paid tribute to his wife Lorraine after she and Michelle McStravick (35), both care workers, were killed in a crash on the Church Road in the town shortly before 8am on Monday.

Mr Clyde said the 56-year-old from the Meadows in Antrim, who also worked as a patrol lady for St Comgall's Primary School, was "so proud" of their five children.

He told how she was "excited" about their eldest daughter getting married soon and another of their children graduating.

"She enjoyed both of her jobs and was a wonderful care assistant," he added.

"She also loved helping out with children school time.

"But everything was about her family."

A statement on the school's Facebook page said she was "highly thought of by staff and pupils" and had been a "determined champion of women’s and workers’ rights".

"She was held in the highest regard by her colleagues in the union and will be sorely missed," a Unison representative wrote online.

Requiem Mass for Ms McStravick is expected to take place at St Macnissi's in Randalstown today.

Mrs Clyde's funeral meanwhile is due to take place tomorrow at 12.30pm at St Comgall's Church in Antrim.
