A PROTEST by parents outside a west Belfast school at the centre of a dispute over teacher absenteeism has entered a second week.

About two dozen people stood at the gates of De La Salle College yesterday morning holding `save our school' placards.

The secondary school has seen pickets by parents and sixth form pupils amid fears that exam results will be affected.

Teachers are to be balloted for industrial action amid claims staff absenteeism is hampering vital exam preparation.

Up to a third of teachers were reportedly absent from the school last Monday. The school has been in turmoil over a breakdown in relations between a significant number of staff and the principal, Claire White, for several months.

Teachers are said to be concerned about an incident that took place last October at the school and how it was subsequently handled.

The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools last night said the situation remained that all parties were "actively still trying to work together and resolve the situation".
