THE life of veteran journalist Liam Clarke will be marked by fellow Buddhists in a "simple Zen service" at his Co Antrim home today - ahead of his funeral on Tuesday.

The reporter, who was Northern Ireland editor of the Sunday Times for 20 years during the worst of the Troubles, before later being appointed Belfast Telegraph political editor, died on St Stephen's Day after a short illness.

Mr Clarke was a practising Buddhist and the service this morning is being led by Ingen K Breen of the San Francisco Zen Center, his wife Kathryn Johnston said on her Facebook page.

It follows a wake last night at the family home in Ballymena.

A funeral, also led by Mr Breen, will be held at Roselawn Cemetery at 2.30pm, with a tribute from former Church of Ireland rector Earl Storey.

Mourners have been invited refreshments at La Mon House afterwards.
