AN off-duty police officer arrested on suspicion of causing the death of an Omagh man in a car crash has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The 40-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the death of Paul Mills, who died following a two vehicle collision on the Dromore Road on the outskirts of Omagh shortly after 10pm on October 10.

Mr Mills, who was aged 49, was originally from Omagh but lived in the Killyclogher area and is survived by his wife and two children.

The woman arrested was later questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Police said that the woman's Saab Vector vehicle may have also been involved in a collision with a white Peugeot 207 earlier in the evening.

The PSNI has declined to comment on whether the officer has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "We do not comment on the occupation of any arrested person. No inference should be drawn from this."

The case is not being investigated by the Police Ombudsman's office, which last night said that matters involving off-duty officers generally fell outside its remit.
