SINN FÉIN has confirmed it will run two candidates in Upper Bann in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Minister for Education and current MLA for the area, John O'Dowd, will defend his seat, while Catherine Seeley will hope to take a second seat for the party.

Ms Seeley, the Deputy Mayor of Armagh. Banbridge and Craigavon, unsuccessfully stood in the constituency in May's general election, where she finished third with over 11,000 votes.

Mr O'Dowd topped the Assembly poll in 2011, with the SDLP's Dolores Kelly getting the second nationalist seat.

The four remaining seats for Upper Bann were all won by unionists in 2011.
