Private funeral for former unionist leader

THE remains of former Ulster Unionist leader James Molyneaux were cremated yesterday following a private funeral service in Co Antrim.

Lord Molyneaux, pictured, of Killead died last weekend aged 94.

The late life peer's family and invited guests gathered to pay their respects at a private noon service at St Catherine's Church of Ireland church within the grounds of RAF Aldergrove.

One time soldier Lord Molyneaux led the Ulster Unionist Party from 1979 to 1995.

The former Lagan Valley MP was bitterly opposed to the 1985 Anglo-Irish Agreement and the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.
