Cannabis factory with £50,000 of plants found

CANNABIS factory with plants worth an estimated £50,000 has been found in Co Tyrone.

Police found the haul on Wednesday in commercial rented premises at Mullanmore Road, Carrickmore.

Equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis and other drugs paraphernalia were also seized for further examination. Inspector Robert McGowan yesterday described it as a "substantial factory".

"Evidence at the scene would suggest a very large number of plants, in addition to those found by police, may have been grown at that location and have since been harvested," he said.

"Officers remain determined to tackle the issue of drugs and to shut down the activities of those involved in their sale and supply in our communities.

"Information is vital and we would ask people to continue to bring information about illegal drugs to us so we can take action."
