£174k of cannabis is seized

CANNABIS plants with a street value of £174,000 have been seized in Co Tyrone.

Officers from the Psni's Dungannon Tactical Crime Team discovered the plants during the search of a property in the Loughbracken Road area of Pomeroy on Wednesday. Growing equipment was also discovered.

Chief inspector Jane Humphries, area Commander, said: "Drugs are clearly an issue of concern to the local community and officers have been working hard in this area to tackle the issue of drug supply and distribution.

"This planned search and the discovery of a cannabis factory illustrates our commitment to deal with drugs in this area."

Police urged private landlords to check their properties on a regular basis as investigations have shown that many properties used as factories for cannabis cultivation are in the private rental sector across northern Ireland.
