Filming starts on second series of thriller The Fall

AWARD-winning actress Gillian Anderson began work on the second series of Belfast-shot thriller The Fall this week.

The Chicago-born star, best known for her role as dana Scully in The XFiles, was widely praised for her portrayal of tough det Supt Stella gibson in the first series of the BBC Two drama.

The new series of The Fall, written by Allan Cubitt, begins with gibson continuing to hunt for the serial killer.

"I'm over the moon to be back in production with this team again and to step into the shoes of the elusive Stella for what promises to be an even darker second season," anderson said.

The series also stars Belfast actor Jamie Dornan as serial killer Paul Spector. Dornan is tipped for Hollywood stardom for his role as Christian grey in the film version of popular book Fifty Shades Of Grey. And Dornan said: "I'm delighted to be back in production for the second series of The Fall. Allan Cubitt has out-done himself and the scripts are stunning."

Co Armagh actor John Lynch returns as assistant Chief Constable Jim Burns.

Coleraine actress Bronagh waugh will also resume her role as Spector's wife Sally-Ann.
