Coulter and Jenkins prepare for tonight's BBC Proms in the Park

WELSH singing star Katherine Jenkins returns to Belfast tonight for the BBC Proms in the Park.

The well-known mezzo-soprano will perform at the Titanic Slipways along with Derry singer/songwriter Phil Coulter, Lithuanian accordion player Martynas and virtuoso violinist Chloe Hanslip. Thousands of people are expected to pack the slipways to enjoy the proms event, which is now in its 12th year. The event will form part of the BBC's Last Night of the Proms celebrations, as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England host live events to mark the end of the world's largest classical music festival. As an extra treat, the Proms audiences at home and on the site will be given a preview of new music and dance spectacular, Heartbeat of Home, from the producers of Riverdance, which is due to receive its world premiere in Dublin next month. Peter Johnston, director of BBC Northern Ireland, said: "This event is one of the most prestigious and large-scale events we undertake each year and music lovers can be assured of a very special evening of music and celebration from an eclectic line-up of local and international talent - all set against the stunning backdrop of the Titanic Belfast building." The event will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Ulster 92-95FM, 1341MW and on DAB Radio. The entire Belfast Prom will also be available to view live online at bbc.co.uk/proms.
